I was at a trial this weekend and a gentleman ask me if I knew a particular stud dog owner. I told him yes and he proceeded to ask me about his dog. I had never seen the dog he asked about run. I didn't have much to tell him except how the dog was breed however, I understood he was a nice hound. This man went on to tell me how he had heard the dog was a real jump dog. All I dare comment to him is I didn't know.
I went on about my business and didn't think about that conversation again until the drive home. I pondered, how could he have heard the dog he asked me about was a good "jump dog.?" I know the owner fairly well and I was sure the dog had not been taken rabbit hunting more than a half dozen times in his whole life. I'm not saying the dog wasn't, I 'm just sure no one really knows because he hadn't been proven.
Possibly he didn't really know me or my dogs as I had never met this gentleman. If someone wanted a dog that would hunt for a rabbit and show a marked tendency to run the line with an intent to overtake it, why on earth would they not be trying to get one out of Star? I suppose I could have tooted my own horn and told him about Star. I don't like to do that. No one wants to hear someone bragging anyway. Not only that, I have a good size back log of people wanting rabbit dogs out of Star. The best I could have offered him was a place on the waiting list or possibly a puppy.
Why did I put my thoughts in print? I'm not really sure, but it's my web site and I get to do the writing. :) Remember this, if your going to buy a rabbit dog, buy a rabbit dog. You can scrimp and try to buy a second rate product, but will you be happy?
If you want a real honest to goodness rabbit dog that look like a beagle then give me a call. We always have some good ones out of various blood lines.
