Beagles

Here are some of the dogs we have here at Five Forks. This certainly isn't all of them but it's a good sampling of whats here. I see them every day so I'm used to them but people sure seem impressed when they come by. Even long time beagle breeders. Feel free to stop by some time even if it's just to say hello and see these bitches.

This page shows off some of the other great beagles I have. Star is the foundation of RHB, so he has his own page. Others are here. Info on Star's pups' success is at the bottom of this page.

FC Shaul's Oopsy Daisy

Daisy is by far the best rabbit dog I have ever breed. She gives 110% every time she goes out. Daisy is the hardest hunting "close" dog I have ever heard of. A friend of mine Ronald Phillips and I went hunting last season with Daisy. Ronald remarked as we watched Daisy work a thick briar patch, " I know Daisy is a good trial dog but she is even better for rabbit hunting." These are the kinds of words that make all the hard work we put into these dogs worth  it. Daisy is almost like a person. I'm not sure she knows she's a dog.

Daisy was born from one of my all time favorite bitches ET Blue Roan Bell. Bell was a super good one in her own right. When Daisy and her litter mates were pups a man from the city, Henry Shaw, came by with his children and wanted to buy a puppy (I'm sorry I can't remember his boys names.) They looked a the puppies and the little boys wanted little Daisy. Not wanting to disappoint the kids I didn't object and hey bought the pup.

I know they took good care of the pup and even started her and gave her plenty of running. When Daisy was about a year or so old Mr. Shaw called to let me know he would not be able to keep Daisy. He said he would sell her back to me. I left at once to go and meet him and get the pup back. I was so glad to have Daisy back. I started taking her rabbit hunting and found out quickly she was just as I had suspected, a very special dog. Daisy excelled at rabbit hunting. She quickly proved herself the equal of much older dogs.

Seeing how much talent Daisy had I quickly started conditioning her for the UBGF derby trials the following spring. I don't remember how many derby trials I ran Daisy in but she was first or second in nearly every one she entered. She easily won the UBGF outstanding derby award.

The following fall I started entering Daisy in the AKC licensed trials. Her first season she had one win and all the points she needed to finish. She was in the winners pack nearly every trial. Daisy was quickly making a name for her self amongst the field trial enthusiast. The following season Daisy got her second two wins in just three trials.

Daisy is the kind of dog you don't get to see every day. As I am writing this Daisy has 5 pups that I have high hopes for. Maybe they will have the same great qualities their mother has.

I revisited what I had to day about Daisy and let me tell you bout those pups. WOW. Rememer the names Five Forks Cocoa Blue.

Introducing new Field Champion:
FC Tate's Lady Bear

Tate's Lady Bear!

Lady Bear died on August 29, 2008. She was indeed a great rabbit hound. Lady Bear was bread by JW Orvin of Baxley Ga. JW and his Grandson Tate Carter are co owners of Lady Bear. The first time I saw Lady run a rabbit, I knew she was a special hound. I tried for an entire summer to buy Lady Bear. I don't have access to a lot of money and I offered Mr. JW $1500 for this super little Lady. Mr. JW was appreciative of the offer but told me he and Tate would just keep her. I later learned that JW had turned down nearly three time the amount I had offered. Well, I was persistent and finally Mr. J.W., knowing my only real concern was that Lady Bear be exposed to the beagling public so that everyone could see what this bloodline can produce, made me a wonderful offer. He said he would hand Lady Bear over to me for rabbit hunting and Field Trialing. I was to compete with Lady, raise a litter of pups and then return her to him. Needless to say, this was the perfect solution! I picked up Lady bear in August of 2005. She was a bit too heavy and out of shape as the rattle snakes around Baxley makes for treacherous running in the warmer months. I brought Lady home and started working her at once. The trial season was coming on quickly and there was not much time. I slowly started taking the weight off Lady Bear by feeding her a steady diet of rabbit tracks. Lady was ran in the heat of the day. I constantly pushed her to see just how good this girl was. Finally Thanksgiving came around and rabbit hunting season began. Lady was quick to make her self one of the dominant hounds in the rabbit hunting pack. She took quickly to producing rabbits from the South Carolina Pine thickets. By the time December rolled around Lady Bear was ready to win. She was taken to Rocky River Beagle club in NC where she came home with her first win. A few more weeks of rabbit hunting and then we were off to Robeson County Beagle club. Once again Lady was able to win the trial. January and February was filled with 2nd and 3rds for Lady Bear. She was super consistent but for one reason or another just kept coming up a little short. I ended the 05-06 trial season with only two of the three wins needed to make Lady Bear a Field Champion. Summer came and summer left. October was here and the 06 season was upon us. I took Lady Bear to Mountain Valley Beagle club where she got her final win and was named AKC field Champion. Lady Bear was a great hound! She was breed back to Cocoa Star and produced Five Forks Star's Legacy. Lady Bear and Star left Legacy with everything she needs to make her own mark on beagle history.

Lady is a litter mate to FC Tate's Yogi Bear.

Gun Dog Field Champion Lady Bird

Lady Byrd is a an excellent specimen of the breed. She was raised right her in Five Forks by me. She is as straight on the line as you will hardly ever see for a dog that can run with some power. She has a heavy chop mouth that sounds like a male dog. She can dot out every track when it's hard to smell and then really pour on the pressure when things a smelling good. Lady Bird hasn't been trialed much due to bad luck. Her first season she missed most of it b/c her tail got really bad. I took a little off of it but it didn't heal enough to get her back in the briars that season. This last season she got to a 5 trials where she made the winners pack 4 times. Not bad for a two year old against some good ole rabbit dogs. I expect Lady Byrd to come into her own this season. She was one of those that just came here not running deer. She is out of Cocoa Star and a line breed Wayne Thompson female on the bottom.. Any one that knows much about beagle breeders will recognize Wayne as one of the all timr greats in the SPO movement. All in all Lady Byrd is one of my favorites. I'd assume not go hunting  if I didn't take her.
Lady Bird Finished for her AKC championship by winning 3 out of 5 s trials!!!!

Cinderella

What can you say about Cinderella. She's the type every rabbit hunter wants. She hunts hard, has a quick gate, and can run the front. One of the fastes siren chop mouths you will hear. She's real good because she was breed to be real good. Lot's of binnies killed over Cinderella. Cinderella has been here since she was a little pup and will probably die here. I expect to enter her in some trials this season now that she has two years hunting expereince. She was breed back to Star and has a young pup that will be a derby in the sping of 09 named Majestic. Watch out of him! I think he's gonna be a good one just like his momma and daddy!

Five Forks Call Girl

Busy, Busy, Busy, is what her name should be. Call girl is out of FC Oopsy Daisy and FC Bullocks Creek Smoke. Line breed the way we like em! Call girl was an 08 derby and proved to be a huge asset to last season's hunting. She runs a rabbit with all her heart, every time. When Call Girl was about a year old she was out running with another dog. I had been following the two for about an hour or so. I caught the pair headed to the truck. At the tuck I noticed Call Girl has a blood shot eye. I drove back to the kennel and upon onloading the dogs I found Call Girls head swollen like a softball. Imediatley I knew it was a snake bite. I started her on benadryl and antibiotcs and the swelling was down in a few days. When the swelling went down you could see two fang marks right in her eye ball. The snake had bitten her right in the eye. She never stopped, she never quite, she just kept running. I didn't even notice her running style change. I'm not sure she even knew she had been bit. (Keep in mind it was in the eye ball.) This girl has grit and heart like most only dream about.  Call Girl earned her place in the Five Forks Project that day. Call girl is a litter mate to Cocoa Blue and will be one of the pillars of the Five Forks Project.

Legacy
At just over a year old Legacy does every thing the way I like. Huge mouth, straigt on the line, and busy as a beaver getting ready for a flood. I mostly wanted to get her on the page to hilight the direction of our breeding program. Legacy is proof genetics are what's important.  Legacy is from two legends in our sport. FC Cocca Star and FC Tate's Lady Bear. I'm a better hunter for hunting behind them, I'm a better breeder from seeing thier offspring, I am a better judge from following them many hours in the field, I have a bigger heart by making room for these hounds in my faithfull breast. If you look close you can see a pattern. Watch for Legacy in late 09 and 10.

Super Dooper
Super Dooper's name tells her story. She was litterally too young to take hunting last season. She was entered in Hiwassee's derby in April where she got 1st place out of 34. I took her to the derby nationals shere she made it all the way to 3rd series! After a few bunnies are killed in front of her this season.......Check out her pedigree.
